The most successful builder quality programs synergistically balance process improvement, inspection and training. To achieve this, we must inspire quality from the top down, and educate quality from the bottom up.
Stan Luhr, CEO, Pacific Property Consultants
Quality Built® inspections provide a true, independent analysis of your vertical construction quality that is complemented by a program of education and training. Each inspection is guided by our unique inspection software and data-gathering tools, which prioritize your risks based on history, type of construction and location.
The system is programmed with thousands of quality checkpoints that deliver positive results for any inspection, on any building, in any geographic location, along with the lessons learned from investigating more than 2,000 construction defect claims involving more than one million homes another Quality Built® exclusive.
Inspection Components
Quality Built® inspections help verify compliance with the applicable building codes, architectural drawings and manufacturers specifications for the hightest known litigation risks. Inspections are designed to yield independent, unbiased evaluations and to spot known quality problems in the following high-risk systems:
- Foundation
- Structural framing
- Windows and doors
- Mechanical/ventilation
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Roof/waterproofing
- Insulation
- Exterior cladding
Our consultants assist with educating your team on improving quality, namely water intrusion, comfort, safety and durability issues.
Based on the volume of construction, the building type and complexity, and the exposure, Quality Built® consultants visit the site at critical process intervals to evaluate the highest risks. More intensive inspections target the models and earlier construction, focusing on the issues with the greatest need for improvement. Inspections and education are intensified if a major trade is replaced or if continuing problems go unresolved.
Statistical Data
Our system is designed to reduce builder liability in the event of a lawsuit, while serving to counter any plaintiff claims of extrapolated deficiencies in your project. You can receive statistics on the most common deficiencies discovered, timeliness of correction, highest quality trades, turnover comparison reports and many others. Our reports can be customized for your internal assessment needs as required. Quality Built® data tracking forms a permanent record of every home you build, the measure of quality for each home and the history of events that will prove your homes are Quality Built®!
Computerized Field Reports and Data Tracking
In construction, timing is critical. You need accurate and instant information to achieve the greatest quality in your homes. Our Quality Built® Field Report provides it.
Once a Quality Built® consultant notes a problem, it is immediately recorded electronically. Each checkpoint is unique to your home, identifying the issue and the trade contractor involved. We furnish the computerized results of each inspection instantly to your superintendent for immediate action. This assures the problem will be addressed, corrected and signed off by the trade contractor responsible for creating the deficiency.
The importance of tracking this information cannot be overstated it becomes an important tool to use in evaluating the performance, quality and risk of every home you build. By obtaining closure on each item, signed by the trade contractor, you ensure compliance with the program and effective liability transfer should similar problems be discovered later.

Sample depicts field report that Quality Built® consultant prints out before leaving the site. Field reports are unit- and location-specific and sorted by trade. Checkpoints include the minimum standard that must be met and allows for documentation of closure per item.
Field Training
With Quality Built®, your construction team benefits from instant priority on what matters most to achieve the greatest quality improvements.
Part of the process is to improve construction quality, not just identify problems. To that goal, Quality Built® consultants provide important education and training when possible, creating an atmosphere of teamwork and devotion to the quality objectives. Experience has shown that no quality program can be successful unless it employs learning as part of the process.
There are numerous topics for systems improvement, including: below-grade waterproofing, concrete placement, framing, window installation and flashing, siding, mechanical and insulation, and roofing. We teach the importance of interaction with these systems and the whole house approach to building performance. We know that a heating system relies on the building insulation to work, but the trades often look only to their own skills to correct problems. Teaching house-as-a-system methods mirrors nationally recognized programs such as Building America, Environment for Living and state energy programs.
Final Reports
A final report will be available for on-line viewing on the Quality Built Information Network (QBIN) at the end of the project. This final report will include a project visit summary, the systems observed and photographs of verified quality installations and construction practices. Having the report available on line will ensure its security and allow you to access to view, print or burn the report to a CD ROM at any time.
Long after the homes are built, and years after the warranties expire, you can rest assured that your Quality Built® homes will benefit from fewer problems, higher quality, better energy efficiency and happier homeowners than ever before. Trust Quality Built® to help you build a better, safer and more efficient home!
